1998 BMW 5 Series 528i review from North America
"Very happy with my Bimmer despite a few problems"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Sunroof stopped working. (There is a reset procedure listed on some BMW message boards).
Driver side interior door handle broke twice - interior passenger side broke once. This was very surprising and annoying.
Trunk latch mechanism broke.
Overheating (Thermostat replaced.)
Electric radiator cooling fan sensor replaced.
BMW emblem on hood started peeling and flaking.
Rubber trim under spoiler fell off.
Car filled with rain water behind the front passenger seat after a heavy rainstorm. (About 2 inches).
Wipers stopped working (relay switch).
Power seat adjustment stopped working,
but fixed itself after restarting the car.
Front and rear cup holders broke.
Rear tail lights and front headlight bulbs have been replaced about 5 times each.
General comments?
Wow, I didn't realize how much I had to put into the car until I started to list the problems here.
All the above problems listed above were repaired by me with the help of a few BMW message boards on the Internet,
So I saved a considerable amount of money.
In addition to what was listed as problems,
I have had the brakes changed, fluids,
and a new fan belt put in by the dealer. (expensive).
Regardless of the problems listed, I still love the car.
My 528i is an awesome handling car, and has a pretty good safety rating.
The engine still runs smoothly, and I get about 21 MPG on average.
