2006 Toyota Highlander review from North America
"I want this car to run like it's reputation says it does"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
I decided to take my car in for a brake inspection on my 2006 Highlander. I took my 2x4 off road, I didn't get on it yet after driving it on what I consider simply contoured terrain it needed a wheel alignment. I contacted the person who sold me the car and also informed them that at the last moment of breaking when comming to a complete stop the brakes let up on it's grip on the rotors even though I am holding a non changing constant pressure on the pedal. This problem has existed since day 1. Coincidently my girlfriend who borrowed the car for the first time just got home when I was on the phone with the dealer and said it happened to her and she was embarrased because it put the car into the crosswalk causing people to walk around the car. The person who sold me the car said they wanted to test drive the car. When the sales person drove the car she denied it was happening. She tried another stop and from the passenger seat I could feel it and she knew I felt it. She then said that it was normal operation. She could tell I wasn't convinced and she offered to let me drive a 2005 Highlander. I did and the problem didn't happen. My girlfriend was with us and she test drove the new rav and I asked her in front of the sales woman if she felt the slipping of the brakes, she said no. I decided to do a test in my Highlander by running up to about 35mph and shifting into neutral and breaking to a stop, perfect stop no slipage. I put the car in for the alignment and asked them to check it out, they said they found nothing. My girlfriend and my self experienced the problem consistently, but the experts didn't, this triggers some concern. With these new cars the problem could be with the power assist breaking or the electronic breaking control or the vehicle stability control or the traction control or? Other posts on this site hint that the manufactures aren't acknowleging the elephant in the room. I know I am not halucinting and neither is my girlfriend, I am posting this to see if others are experiencing this problem with their Toyota. If you are please post a reply.
