2001 Hyundai Accent GLS review from Indonesia

The car was OK for the first three years since I bought a new one in 2001. The dealer was also relatively good.

The first problem was happened to the wiper motor. It didn't run smoothly and a strange sound was heard. I checked to the local dealer and they said the whole motor needed to be replaced. So I went to a non-dealer repairer and they just changed the bearings.

Then several problems happened since then: front right door handle was broken, power steering oil leakage, brake problem, tie rod and front wheel alignment problem. This happened all the time and simultaneously. So I spent a lot of money fixed them accordingly.

Then the most terrible problem happened when the car reached around 60,000 kms. The car produced a lot of smoke from the exhaust. The dealer said that the car needed an overhaul as they need to replace the valve seals. It cost me around Rp 5 million (US$ 600) at that time.

Then I found the fact that that problem not only happened to my car. Many other Hyundai Accent cars also suffered the same thing!!!. In Jakarta, almost all taxis that use this car had smoke problem!!!

I don't know about the quality of Hyundai cars in other countries especially US and Europe, but what I know that the overall quality of Hyundai in Indonesia is low compared to other Japanese, US or European brands.
