1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse rs review from North America

Right passenger wheel bearing had to be replaced at 120,000.

Transmission went bad at 130,000miles.

I have had very few problems with this car. I drive cross country about 3 times a year, so most of the miles are highway. The engine still purrs like a kitten after 130,000. I have yet to replace the muffler, alternator, starter, or other items that usually need replaced on a car with this many miles. The only thing that went wrong with this car was the manual transmission. WARNING: If you buy this car, make sure you have at least $2,500 in the bank to purchase a new transmission. Mitsubishi made the transmission on this car for only 2 years. They are very hard to come by, and they cost mucho bucks. Other than that this car performs very quick for a 4 cylinder. Great on gas mileage. The ride on the car has always been a bit bumpy, but its starting to get worse as the car ages. Another small, minor problem is with the cars cosmetics. The headlight clearcoat finish is starting to peel off, and the engine bay started to rust shortly after I purchased the car. I will definetly keep continuing to drive this car until it dies. I, however, will not buy another mitsubishi, due to the fact that there are not many on the road, so replacement parts can be pricey. I will probably buy a honda or toyota as my next car.
