1977 Lotus Esprit s1 review from Australia and New Zealand
"`if you have to ask...`"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
The flange gasket blew out due to a crack in the connecting exhaust manifold (apparently manifold cracks are common in early esprits due to extreme temperature variations) Remedied with a re-weld and gaskets.
As a `rolling project` the car will eventually be re-sprayed (black) with a (white) leather interior (upgraded from the dilapidated gold velour). - I dare say I will incur a number of expenses in that department yet.
General comments?
Purchased due to a `mid life` crisis (and remembering the fun I had in my Europa some twenty five years earlier) I figured I would have to `get lucky `in an Esprit.
My god... what an awesome and shear exhilarating experience... where had I been all those years. Women?...who needs them!...I`m having a close, intimate and meaningful relationship with my s1 esprit. Might see you on the next bend somewhere...Cheers!
