1987 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera GT (4 door) review from North America
"Best car GM ever made!"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
AC hose.
Timing chain.
Tranny slipped a little.
Cruise failed after a while.
Engine and transmission problems could be attributed to my own rough driving.
General comments?
Limited production (3200 4-Dr GTs made).
The 3.8 motor was full of low end power and it often begged for quick starts off the line and I obliged with a terrific whoosh. Of course I mostly stayed at the speed limit, just enjoyed getting to it quickly in that car. I surprised many V8 muscle cars in my old 87 Ciera GT. Plus it had a heavy duty suspension, brakes and cooling.
With a gauge package, center console, sun roof and full power options it was a world class machine, a real sleeper. The GT's only came in Black, Grey or Burgundy with silver rocker panel flares that were GT only and alloy wire like wheels and the Ciera model with composite headlights and fog lights.
I am always looking for another one, my first one was traded in at my wife's request!
PS. If you get a Ciera GT - don't do what I did: I replaced the stock steering wheel with a Grant Custom GT wheel in black that resembled a GT wheel of a factory type but the grip was thicker and the diameter a little smaller- I just started driving even faster!!
