1993 Audi 80 2.0 E review from UK and Ireland
"Have tested new models, they're not significantly better"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Strut top mounts and drive shaft gaiters at 85000 miles replaced before they failed. (both normal wear and tear)
At 90000 intermittent and violent clutch judder, combined with uncontrolled revving and trying to stall, (a two second cycle up and down,) car virtually undriveable.
Fault traced to throttle positioning valve on the mono-motronic unit. To check remove the thing completely and unplug 4 or 6 pin terminal. Car should run fine except the tick-over will drop to nothing.
I spent months trying to locate this fault, because the local Audi dealer hadn't the right diagnostic equipment.
This may help someone else.
Car now runs superbly.
General vehicle condition inside and out as new. Will keep for a few yrs yet.
General comments?
Economical for engine size. 45mpg on continental trips
Seats lack support, they need armrests for long trips.
Paint/corrosion protection exceptional.
Road-holding and handling v good, although steering a little light and lacking feel.
