1981 Datsun Bluebird Ventura review from Australia and New Zealand
"Good, reliable with a bit of TLC!"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Replace Rusted Radiator, Water Pump (poor maintenance prior to purchase)
Full Carby Kit & clean (Hitachi Model)
Replace Electric Fuel Pump.
Replace failed Ballast Resistor connected to coil.
New Tie-Rod Ends.
Replace starter Motor.
Clutch Kit (5 spd Japanese trans)
Replace diode pack in alternator.
Bit of rust under back window (wagon)
Replace Dim & corroded Series 1 Headlight assemblies.
Likes to stall in the rain, WD40/RP7 is a good thing to carry around.
Predetonation on unleaded (set the timing back a TINY bit).
Dash instruments failed one by one, illumination, economy gauge, warning lights all started to go out one by one, but what do you expect at this age? It had probably done over 267000 when I traded it, but that's when the odo stopped working). Didn't bother fixng these!
General comments?
Best car I owned (except Nissan Pintara TRX...vroooom, but that's another tale)
Once all the problems were fixed was a good, economical car that loved highway travel.
Constant cooling system overheats were fixed by replacing the radiator and adding a secondary thermo fan.
Being a wagon it was a good car to take camping, and had plenty of room for 4 adults!.
Aircon ran well, turn it off for a bit of a power boost.
The L20b burns oil a bit at this amount of km's so change the oil frequently.
I also added a High energy ignition and after that it started every time, and ran a little smoother, but no overall power boost.
