1998 Dodge Durango SLT review from North America
"Nice truck, especially with some performance improvements"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Fuse under hood for fog lights blew.
Rear windshield wiper motor needed to be replaced.
Freeze plug needed to be replaced.
General comments?
I bought this car from a local dealer as is with ~112K on it. They had put on new tires (which was cool) and cleaned it up good.
One thing I didn't like was they didn't tell me about the rear wiper not working or the fog lights not working... oh well, as is..is...as is.. my fault for not checking.
I hear a lot of people complaining about repairs.. you have to do a thing called "preventative maintenance". First thing I did when I got my truck was go to Goodyear (not affiliated)..they have a $40 fee for checking basically everything from bumper to bumper.
After their report of stuff they found wrong, their price to fix it was almost $2K. I didn't intend on them fixing it anyway as I have my own mechanic I've been going to for some time now.
I had a complete tune-up done, rear windshield motor replaced, fog lights fixed, everything greased that's supposed to get greased. He also removed part of a block heater that was on there and wasn't functional for me. All this was only just over $400.
Since then, I've changed the oil every 3 months since I don't drive it enough to put 3,000 miles on it using pennzoil, and let it warm up in the winter time for about 1 minute.
I've had the truck now for 7 months with absolutely NO problems. I've even put some performance into it.
I've got a cool air intake, dual exhaust and superchips programmer in it and it runs like a bat out of hell!
It gets 11.5MPG in the city and 14MPG on the highway which isn't bad and doesn't stray from the original manufacturer's markings.
All I can say is, if you take care of her, she'll take care of you! Actually read the manual if you've never owned a 4-WHEEL drive vehicle before because there's stuff you shouldn't do--like switch into 4WD on dry pavement.
Shouts to all the "D" owners out there.. take some pride in it and it won't let you down.
