1988 SAAB 900 GLE review from Australia and New Zealand

"A classic piece of Swedish automotive technology :)"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

I needed a new radiator within a couple of weeks of purchase. Thankfully, this was picked up by my fantastic mechanics when it went in for a service!

The headliner is sagging, which is a common fault with these cars.

My cruise control doesn't work. Not much of an issue as I don't do much highway cruising.

General comments?

I have wanted a SAAB since I drove in a 900 Turbo when I was in High School. I figure I have the funds to run such a car, although, it really hasn't been that expensive to run thus far.

The interior is very comfortable, with those fabulous heated seats. I think it still looks good, even compared to modern car design.

The headliner is sagging which is a shame as it is quite noticeable. I will get this fixed when I have some spare cash.

My 900 was a one owner vehicle when I purchased it and because of it, the service history is complete and the car has been kept in fantastic order. A very good pickup for what I paid for it ($2800 AUD)!

My only real gripe with the car is the fact that it only has a 3sp automatic. Doing 110kms on the highway at 3000 revs is a bit much. It just sucks down fuel.. even in city driving.

But, I guess it is the price you pay for a car that delivers you so much pleasure and doesn't cost much else to run!
