2000 Toyota Avensis d4D SR review from UK and Ireland
"Quick and fugal, under-rated bullet proof saloon"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Nothing gone wrong.
Cambelt changed at 58K.
Wears front tyres if driven hard due to being very torquey.
General comments?
Good car, never going to set the world alight, but for a family saloon you can't ask for more really.
The engine is sweet, (2.0 twin-cam 16V common rail diesel) even if its only 110bhp, the masses of torque more than make up. In gear pace is excellent.
Refinement is good for a diesel, although could use a 6th gear for motorway work.
Handling much improved since fitting the Toyota spec sports suspension... well worth the money.
Will return 55mpg if driven sensibly on the motorway, expect around 40-45 around town.
Cabin is typical toyota, nasty grey, but bullet proof quality.
Insurance is only group 10 so is relatively cheap to run.
SR d4d is very rare, I've only ever seen another 1 in the flesh although no-one else is likely to notice!!!
Very underrated car.
