1996 Nissan Pickup XE 4x4 review from North America
"So far OK with some exceptions"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Idle body and serpentine belt went abruptly at 68,000 en route to a flight at a faraway airport.
Body rust on driver's side door sill.
Only one plastic tooth holding lift gate up.
Finish wearing off of alloy wheels after one Vermont winter.
Replaced stock paper-wafer speakers with mid-range Ken-woods. OEM equipment speakers blew out.
General comments?
The car is quick for a small output pickup truck.
Manual transmission very vague.
Clutch sometimes slips, wears easily on large hills.
Fit and finish excellent, except for some rust spots.
Interior is reliable and well organized; simplicity!
Car can handle rough in cold weather or rough pavement.
Weird feeling when in neutral when braking.
Gear pattern is precise, sometimes mistake third for first.
Low red line inhibits passing on highway.
Excellent car for summer activities!
Low range four-wheel drive works very well!
Would not recommend manual locking hubs.
Paid $4800 plus six percent Vermont sales tax, ~$5300, with sixty seven thousand miles on the odometer.
