1997 Toyota Prado TZ review from UK and Ireland
"Unique"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
My auto gear box had a few problems with synchro mesh at 50,000 miles, but I had the good fortune of a warranty which came into play. Cost £2500.
Air conditioning packed up due to leakage of a pipe rubbing through a hole at the front end of the car. £200 did the job.
General comments?
I`ve had this car a long time now and have gone on three trips to the Northen Sahara, crossed the Atlas Mountains many times and used this car on a day to day basis.
It has never ever realy let me down. It is a bit heavy on the fuel consumption, but you can't have your cake and eat it. If there was ever an all round vehicle than this it`s one its on road handling which is fantastic for the size of the car. It is a bit rather boaty in the corners. It`s road capability is very good even if it does lack a bit of power, it makes up for it in the amount of torque. I towed a trailer across the desert and never ever got stuck once. Overall, I wouldn't change this car for any other. God bless Toyota.
