1992 Peugeot 405 D review from UK and Ireland
"Fantastic reliability and the probably the best value for money I've ever had!"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Steering lock when I first bought it
heater blower motor was faulty when I bought it.
General comments?
14 years old and rock solid reliable - I've done 22,000 miles in 7 months - yes truly. 55 mpg - Main dealer fitted cam belt for under £150 all in - heater blower motor fitted was a bit more- £200 for that - Comfortable - easy to live with and good road holding - motorways very good - no power steering on mine so steering heavy for parking, but OK. I change the oil 6000 miles, uses about less than 1 litre between times - easy good starter - unrefined engine - and as no turbo you have to use the gears - fine on motorway though - tyres cheap and easy to get - I was told that the best thing to do is to buy the diesels with high mileage on the clock - they will be the best maintained and motorways don't wear the rest of the car out - mine still feels tight!
