1998 Chrysler Concorde LXI review from North America

"The most reliable car I have ever owned"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Trim and door seals. Electric radiator fan (at 160,000 miles), HVAC controller (at 180,000 miles), broken catalytic converter (at 187,000 miles), transmission speed control (at 188,000 miles).

General comments?

Absolutely nothing went wrong with this car for the first 150,000 miles. Not even a burned out light bulb! Now at close to 190,000 miles it's starting to nickel and dime me, but it owes me nothing.

I've read other negative comments about Chrysler reliability here and I wonder if we are talking about the same car. I've owned six Chryslers since 1984 and some Japanese cars too. Yes, the transmissions in my mid-90s Caravans were junk, but otherwise they have all been good vehicles. I've never had a major engine problem, except my 1988 Caravan, which had a Mitsubishi motor.

This is a very pleasant car to drive on long trips.

Decent gas mileage for such a large car. I average 24.5 mpg in my mostly rural driving.

The 3.2L engine has just the right amount of power and torque and is nicely matched to the transmission gearing. It never hunts for gears and is smooth shifting.

Seats and driving position are decent for an American car.

It still looks good, inside and out, although its now eight years old. Unfortunately, the styling of the new 300C-- and especially the Charger-- puts me off, so my next car will not be a Chrysler.
