1997 Peugeot 406 GLX review from UK and Ireland

Sidelights have stopped working on the front of car.

Couple on electrical niggles with dashboard indicator lights coming on to go off a few days later (dipped beam indicator being the only one!).

Exhaust has been loose and very slightly holed since I bought car, but the car is nearly 9 years old!

Service intervals are quite small and manufacturers original 1 year warranty seems paltry by todays standards and makes you wonder how much faith Peugeot have in there cars (or rather the electrics in them!)

Still a nice car and nothing untowrad for a car that is nearly 9 years old. Nothing that has put me off it.

Excellent car for pocket money. GLX has excellent specification including 4x electric windows and electric sunroof (upto January 1998 - mine registered 11 days earlier!). Only thing Peugeot could and should have added was alloy wheels or a CD player as standard, as it will cost me at least £60 to add one. But there is space in the boot for an autochanger for standard radio casette.

2.0 engine gives excellent performance and great fuel economny 40+ mpg even round town.

Cabin feels a bit too plasticky, but seats are extremely comfortable, and car feels a lot more expensive than it is.

Going away for 3 months at end of this month, but more than happy about laying it up so long as it is turned over. Plan to drive round Europe in it on my return, so it is fairly reliable and comfortable!
