1966 Morris Minor 4 Door Deluxe review from UK and Ireland
"Great, surprisingly able every-day driver!"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Original 1098cc engine died. Last owner put it in wrong and it dumped all its oil and killed the bearings. Not a design fault!
I managed to fry the alternator, but the original dynamo never failed.
That's it, it cannot be overstated how reliable these cars are!
General comments?
Great everyday car.
The later 1098cc models have just enough uumph to cope well with modern traffic.
Handling is interesting, good by the standards of the day, but a bit 'wallowy' by modern standards.
Its rear wheel drive so that makes for great fun on roundabouts - you soon learn how to control the back end when flipping it out around bends!
I've put an MG 1275 engine in mine, incredibly easy job to do and adds just a bit more useable power for long distance and hilly drives.
Hills are the Minors nemesis in standard form - although I honestly believe it'll climb anything (aleibt slowly).
They feel really torque'y, but just don't expect much outright speed.
Interior and all fitments have aged perfectly.
Comfortable enough to drive every day come rain or shine.
It'll never let you down!
