1989 Nissan Skyline GXE review from Australia and New Zealand

"One of the best cars around"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Rear shocks where shot and every time the car went over a bump it would bend the tail-shaft to the limit ultimately causing the tail-shaft to crash into the diff wrecking both diff and tail-shaft, causing the whole diff and tail-shaft to be replaced. The bar that is under the diff has rubbers that stop it from clanking and making a whole lot of noise, these rubbers always come loose so it sounds like the bottom of the car is about to fall out. The change between 1st and 2nd gear in the auto transmition is rough apparently it is normal for these cars, supposed to make the car feel more sporty, gets abit annoying some times, but the faster you take off the smoother the change gets. Power steering is stiff and don't know why, it also doesn't have as good turning radius as the Pintara (it can't do as tighter turns that the Pintara can do). Right indicator doesn't always turn off after making a turn. That's about all that's gone wrong just normal thing that go wrong with these cars.

General comments?

It is a wagon the boot is roomy, and interior could be abit bigger, but the functions such as electronic antenna and power mirrors give the car a feeling of class. Great car, could be better on fuel consumption, has excellent acceleration, great on the highway and around town, the overdrive/powershift switch is a really good idea helps slow the car down from higher speeds. Overall excellent car many people call them ugly cars I don't think they are ugly at all.
