1984 Dodge D100 Prospector review from North America

"I loved the engine in it the 318 would be the reason I would buy another dodge"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

The truck was great when I first bought it, but after about a year of ownership is when thing began to show up. I would always have to replace the you joints after 20 000kms.

The alternator would continually burn up; I had to replace it 4 times.

I went through 2 automatic transmissions before installing a side cover 3-speed manual.

Blew out a front passenger wheel bearing at 272 000 after the previous owner had replaced it.

The speedometer had to be replaced a twice.

Fuel gauge would work when it felt like it.

Truck had to be parked for 4 months due to complete electrical failure and had to be rewired.

Can not find replacement grille and signal lenses resulting in complete core support conversion using grill, headlights, and signal lights from a 1973-model year.

Rust was very bad around rocker panels and rear fenders.

General comments?

I was still very impressed with the truck while I was still driving it she handled like a dream, the steering wheel would never have to be moved to keep it on the road, there was no play what so ever.

At 312 002kms is where the original 318ci engine had blown out and it only died because the bearing in the number 5 and 7 piston had blown and plugged up the oil pick up resulting in lock up. this is only reason truck is not still driven.

The clutch that was used in the manual I installed was great no slipping what so ever and the transmission itself was great, no griding, or missed shifts.

She would burn rubber like no ones business.

The dual exhaust that I had come out behind the cab gave a nice grunt sound from the Chrysler engine.

She had a nice get up and go when you punched it to the floor.
