1986 Chrysler Laser review from North America

"People underestimate the potential of it"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Leaks oil badly.

Back suspension was shot when I bought it (93000) km

Needs a strut job (93677) km

Timing belt replaced at 93000

Altenator noise (don't know why)

General comments?

Well it's my first car and I am 16. At first I hated it the sight of the car, wanted to make me puke. I think it kinda looked like a space ship. due to the roll-over in my Mazda rx7: (I had to buy this thing).

After I put a lot of time and effort in to shining it up and doing a little performance work to it (took flap out of air box) took out the air filter (anyone know any more cheap mods, let me know).

I put the back suspension in and was surprised at how well it really can handle... still saving for the struts in the front :(...

I took it out and I was really surprised. I instantly fell in love with the position you sit in while you drive. Great for long highway trips, very comfortable.

The performance is alright... I can't brag or anything. I can keep up with Civic's, Integra's and most older Prelude's. I tried racing a police Impala. Got beat surprisingly by only 2 car lengths.

Little upset about how much the car weighs (again, if anyone has any tips, that would be great)

Other than that, I love the car. The 5 speed tranny works great, except every now and then it grinds and I don't know why. I drive the same all the time, the clutch is always on the floor. I don't know why (any hints) but otherwise for being 16 I fell in love with it. The paint looks new, it's a great little car, and cheap on gas..

If anyone has any comments or tips about performance, altenator noise or the damn transmission, please let me know.
