1985 Mitsubishi Sigma GN -GL- review from Australia and New Zealand

"I love my sigma so much I have two"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

When I first got the car I noticed the faded bumpers, broken water temp. sender, smokeiness and leaking rocker cover seal.

After my 4 000kms of hard driving I have managed to notice more smoke (rings or valve steam seals or both)

The inlet gasket is leaking water (stop leak fixed it) I noticed a loud grumpily with the oil pressure light coming on when I start it, that is from the faulty oil pump, because of low pressure has caused some head problems (ticky) so I might need to fix the oil pump and the hydraulic tappets.

I have replaced the battery and the starter motor solenoid is a bit faulty as the car doesn't make connection every-time I try start it.

Economy is steadily falling, from 325kms a tank (thrashing) to about 280kms a take these days. 6.25kms per litre)

General comments?

I have had the car for just over 6 months and I have never looked back.

I must admit apart from the engine problems I am very very happy with the sigma. If I were to design a car that I liked, the Sigma would come very close. The only things I don't like are engine problems and the glove box space.

Apart from that I love the power-steering in my GK -SE- (parts car), I love the reading lights, electric windows and the beautiful seats. The Sigma is very stylish to me and I am amazed at all the looks and styles, everything about the interior is perfect to me, even the stock stereo amazes me.

The paint is perfect better then my parents cars, only problem is rust around the windshield and the leaking seals.

I love the low end torque and I now hate high end engines. Very smooth gear box and shifting can be impossible to notice when done at the right RPM

with her problems at the moment she can do 0-100kms/h in just under 11 seconds, it will do 180kms/h in 5th @ 4 000RPM, and is very stable at those speeds.

Very simple to work on and cheap to fix. parts are common. Cruising is very nice, but she suffers in the hills, very poor handling when it comes to my mates 85 Celica.

But at the end of the day I don't care about any of there problems, there is just something about my sigma that I love. I don't plan to sell her ever!
