1987 Nissan 300ZX GLL review from North America
"It will wet Honda owners pants"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Got rid of the old cooling fan and shroud setup that has been robbing my car of horsepower for the last 19 years. I installed a 90's model Ford Taurus electric cooling fan.
Stereo was non existent when I purchased my Z, so I installed a new CD/MP3 player. Hardest problem with this is most people cut off the factory harness to install an aftermarket radio. I went to the junk yard and took a harness out of a 87 maxima and traced the lines down and soldered the connections so that this is an easy swap later down the road.
My alternator the went out after those upgrades to the car. Instead of getting the standard factory replacement rated at 70amps, I went and got the 92 Nissan Maxima alternator rated for 90amps. It's an awesome mod when done right.
The automatics put into these cars are junk, they have a sensor in them to prevent the car from shifting into OD when they are cold. In the Chicago area, it gets really cold, but not have any snow. Its annoying that it revs higher wasting gas until the tranny sensor warms up.
Then my automatic died. I lost 2nd and 3rd and OD capability. I love my car too much to get rid of it and I don't plan on owning a different car for me unless it was a Z model of some type. I pulled the automatic out and transplanted a 5spd from an 1984 model 300ZX. I hope to be finished with this by Saturday, August 19th, 2006.
General comments?
Although this car is from Japan, it is the Anti-Rice for all Honda's and Toyota's and should not be treated as a ricer.
This car is fast and Honda owners furious.
This car is a great platform for making a fast car on low bucks.
