1996 Chevrolet Cavalier Z22 review from North America
"Nice car, but large repair bils"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Head gasket blew at 160K, to be expected as this engine was known for this, and I'm surprised it lasted that long.
Tons of front end parts failed at an expense of 1400.00, however I consider this to be normal maintenance, and due to the manner in which the car was driven.
Well, now at 204K the fuel pump needs replacing. The little bugger lasted a long time. And as well as it should at a parts only replacement cost of 515.00. I have never paid more than 200.00 for a fuel pump for any vehicle I have ever owned! 500.00 is ridiculous! I better be able to salvage some of the 24 carat gold and diamonds from the old one.
Engine lights stays on all the time despite the fact there is nothing wrong with the car.
General comments?
Not a bad ride for what it is. Very cheap on gas, no matter how crappy it used to run before the tune-up. I always get about 150 kms just off the neck when I fill up, about 650 kms to a tank.
