1990 Mazda RX7 Turbo review from North America

"Owning this car was one of the best experiences of my entire life. The car was awesome"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

I didn't have any problems with the car until I moved to the country and had to drive down a dirt road every day. A sensitive sports car engine just can't handle dirt. I had air cleaner problems, wore out a clutch and replaced brakes. The fuel injection system did not like dirt and had to be bled several times to unclog it.

General comments?

I previously owned a 1980 Mazda RX7. I got into this 1991 RX7 and the turbo blew me away. I had to have it. I drove it home from the dealer immediately. It became a part of you when you drove. When people have to be in traffic so much they should choose fun over ordinary.

The handling and performance of this car was unbelievable. I lived in North Dallas at the time which is like L.A. for high priced sports cars. A brand new vet pulled up next to me one day and revved his engine at the stoplight. The light turned green and within two blocks he was five car lengths behind me. Porsche's, Beamers, Vipers, and you name it would pull up beside me on the North Dallas Tollway and I would blow them away.

My Mom had a heart attack and she lived 350 miles away. I made it in three hours with the highway patrol calling ahead so I was escorted through small towns on the way. This car loved to run at eighty to ninety miles an hour. It got the best gas mileage and performed the best at this speed. The turbo still had pull away and leave them in the dust speed starting at eighty. It never ran hot once.

It was black on black, with power everything and I kept it looking brand new. My two year old daughter loved it also and called it the "Bat-mobile". We are now looking for a new Bat-mobile since we are no longer on the farm.
