1989 Nissan Maxima GXE review from North America
"The best car ever made!!"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Thermostat stock came close but did not overheat.
Speedometer sensor and speedometer head.
Temperature gauge.
Clock.
Control arm bushings had to be replaced.
Front shocks, springs, and stabilizer bushings and mounts (What can I say, New York City roads are brutal to front ends and chassis parts).
Driver's side power windows master switch unit.
My power seatbelt on the driver's side is slowing down.
ECCS relay went.
Bose system is out, but the antenna works.
Throttle sensor was faulty.
General comments?
Even though I had so many repairs, most of them were under the car. But before I repaired them the car ran fairly well.
When it came out of shop with practically a new front end (by the way this car eats ball joints, it's incredible) I though I had a new car.. it handles so good!
I did go to the dealer for a timing belt/water pump replacement, I have to say they were expensive, but for what those parts are worth and do, I was broke but satisfied.
I haven't seen a V6 engine (v6oe) so easy to tune up.
At 115,000 it runs excellently, I did crash it a few times and it still ran good. It helps to have a good body/fender shop.
When they designed this model, Nissan did their homework, it has power, speed, handling, looks and most of all it is roomy. The down side is there aren't any cup holders.
What a great machine.
