2005 Chrysler Sebring Sedan Limited review from North America

"Zippy, but has a rough transmission"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

The car has a lot of body noises even though I've heard Chrysler tried to minimize those noises with this model year. When I turn at a slow speed it clunks and creaks quite a bit.

Recently the brakes started jumping as though the rotors are in need of turning. When I took it in for PA state inspection to the dealer and told them it may need brakes and/or rotors turned, I was told the rotors on this car are almost impossible to turn and usually must be replaced. The car has only 43,000 miles on it! I was told others have had problems with rotors at even 15,000 miles.

The car shifts roughly at certain times, sometimes when going slowly or accelerating. On the highway where I have been driving through a five mile one lane construction zone lately, if I try to down shift to 3rd gear and then back to drive, it often jumps. I thought the transmission was going to completely go out on me on the highway the other night. It just seemed to hesitate between shifting gears completely for a few seconds. I had been avoiding the brakes through this construction zone since they jump, but downshifting to 3rd gear and up to drive is even worse that the jumpy brakes.

General comments?

I love the car otherwise, but the transmission performance worries me. For a smaller car it is fairly roomy inside. I like the back seat which can be opened into the trunk if necessary to carry something long that otherwise would not fit into a car of this size.

I can get 30 mpg or more on the highway which is where I mostly drive it. I rarely get below 28 mpg.

I also like the standard fog lights that came with the car.
