1990 Ford Fairmont EA II review from Australia and New Zealand
"Great car with nice interior and relaxing to drive."
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Air-con stopped working at about 158,000 KS. Needed new condenser unit which required the dashboard to come off.
---------------------------------------------
Battery replaced at about 150,000 KS. Not really a fault - just general wear and tear.
General comments?
This was a great car to drive and own. In Fairmont trim it looked much better than the base GL for not much more money. The car had a full service history and I also had it properly serviced and maintained.
Some people told me prior to buying it that the then new 4 speed auto was prone to breaking down and that the old 3 speed unit in the series I EA was better. I found this to be unfounded in my case, the car changed gears beautifully.
At the time I purchased the car I was also considering a VN Holden Commodore / Berlina, but I felt that the EA series II felt more solid on the road and had a more refined overall feel to it. Also the Fairmont interior was miles ahead in terms of class and looks.
Although probably hard to find now in good condition I would recommend this car to anyone who is after a spacious, relaxed family / cruise car. Found a genuine one owner on the internet the other day with only 91,000 KS for around $5,000 - rare as hens teeth now I think!
