1989 Jeep Grand Wagoneer review from North America
"If I could only have one vehicle, this would be it!"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Carb work.
Some minor electrical.
General comments?
I have had Wagoneers in my drive way since 1968, starting with a 1962, then a 1966, a 1972, a 1979,
a 1987 Grand Wagoneer (first one bought brand new). In 93, since they were discontinued, purchased a new Suburban which was totaled in 2002. Went looking and found a pristine Grand Wagoneer, garaged with 59K.
It has served us faithfully, going through two of my children who used it hard. Now it's back in my possssion and running well. It will be lovingly restored and I will keep it forever!
As with all Wagoneers, gas mileage is poor, your back window will malfunction eventually, your electric door locks will function marginally, and your carb will need to be rebuilt at least twice. However, this vehicle will get you wherever you have to go, under any conditions, whenever you have to be there. Off road, it's as confident as you could ask and on the highway, it just plain rides smooth. If they were still building them, I'd still be buying them. If I could only have one vehicle, this would be it!
