1990 Ford Capri review from Australia and New Zealand
"Great first car/ Cheap runaround/Cheap and easy to maintain"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
The poor hatchback has done more than 300 thousand kilometres, so the whole lot of things went:
Head gasket, clutch, slave and master cylinders, and a whole lot of things.
Cannot complain, since a car with such a high mileage was actually being able to move, and could pass a warranty of fitness, if I have invested approximately NZ $ 700 - 1200. Money spent would get me almost everything good under the bonnet, extending the lifetime of the cheap runaround.
1.3 litre SOHC has proven to be extremely reliable, until overheating problems began, and has made it all the way to the top of North Island from Auckland, taking a detour through Bay of Islands, and the total time was approximately 6 hours with about an hour allowed for refreshment stops. The whole roadtrip has set me back by 1.5 tanks of gas.
Not the most comfortable ride, but did the job just fine for me and three more people, and a bootload of alcohol and food.
General comments?
She'll get you around if you maitain it, this is my verdict, nothing can go wrong with a little manual Corolla.
Also did the job just fine getting me to work and back, easy to park.
