1984 Pontiac Firebird FOREBIRD S/E review from Australia and New Zealand

Just the usual things you'd expect from a 20+ year old car have gone wrong with mine,

the starter motor, alternator and water cooling system have all needed to be replaced, other than that any other problems with the car have been caused by long term storage before I bought it, ie-brakes.

As a daily car it is very reliable, no problems.

For an old car its still very nice looking.

I will never sell my firebird, but if something ever happens to it I'll replace it with another 1980's firebird or T/A.

It is an amazing handling car, with added tighter springs and shocks this car is an outstanding handling car that can take on and beat many new cars and any import.

It was one of the best handling cars of its day and when you drive a good example you quickly learn this.

Not as quick as a v8 but still a fast car. I want to drop a v8 in her soon.

If you buy an 84 (v6 or v8) or older I seriously recommend you install:

A:electric fan in place of the factory fan which never really lets the car get to running temp and also taxes power.

B:better exh; letting it breath better also helps

C: and a mild/warm cam.

I have managed to get enough power out of my engine and now it's a fast car, but I still feel it deserves a v8.

The 3rd Gen Firebirds are a very well designed car and will be future classics.
