General comments?
I have driven this car almost 200,000 miles, and having owned Jaguars, Chevrolet's, Honda's, Fords, and Chrysler's I can say that this car is without a doubt the best overall car I have ever owned. It's been reliable, comfortable, beautiful to look at, and not that expensive to own. I should mention that anytime anything, even the smallest thing goes wrong or does not work, I take it to my dealer who knows what to do and fixes it right the first time. I have never had to take it back for the same problem twice, ever. I change the oil every 3,000 miles like clockwork, and only use Castrol GTX. I change the transmission fluid every 30,000 miles and have the filter cleaned. I replace the shocks every 75,000 miles. I change the tires every 60,000. Get the idea? Routine maintenance is the best way to avoid problems with any vehicle, and if you do have problems having a top notch mechanic to work on it it is paramount. I am not saying you can't get a lemon, but the basic vehicle is a sound design with quality components. I would suggest that anyone having a multitude of problems has either (a) purchased a vehicle that was not maintained properly or (b) doesn't have due diligence when problems occur. A machine will only peform as well as it is maintained. Just ask our flyboys, who have 4 hours ground maintenance for every hour in the air for a typical F-16. I see too many people complain about vehicles when the real problem is poor response to a noise, or an incompetent mechanic. I do recall one problem I had with a low oil pressure warning @ 90,000 miles. 2 mechanics told me the engine was trashed and I needed to spend $5,000 on a new one. My Olds dealer who I finally took it to discovered a bad spring in the sending unit... cost me $85 to fix it. (note that I have 274,000 miles on this trashed engine)
