2000 Nissan Maxima GLE review from North America
"Nissan Maxima is a Great Car. I Love my car"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
01/11/2007
My car stalls after the engine has heated up to the normal driving temperature.
I went to Nissan dealership in my city they run a check on the cars computer and told me it was O2 sensor on bank1.
Paid them to replace the sensor. The problem did not go away. Then they told my idealing motor my be out. It will cost me $600 for the part and addtional charges for how long it will take them to fix it plus tax. My estimates right there was heading towards $1000+.
I decided to do some research on my own and found a comment posted by one guy from Canada - I did as he said and my car is wonderful...see below.
This is to everyone complaining about their O2 sensors..
I've had similar problems with my 2000 Maxima, but after doing some research I found the the problem was not the 02 sensor, but rather the Mass Airflow Meter, (MAF) it's a very quick and fairly inexpensive fix, I did it myself in about 20 Min and now my car runs like a dream. Just go on Ebay and look for a MAF for your Maxima, I got mine for about $80, if you can't find one there go to www.courtesyparts.com and get one from there about $110. I live in Canada and the Nissan dealers here charge over $600 for a MAF replacement (ridiculous!!!) Its not that hard to replace one either even if you don't have a lot of mechanical knowledge, just google it to find a bunch of great easy to follow guides.
General comments?
Nissan Maxima is great car. If you review the owners manual they recommend that the Mass Air Flow meter should be changed at 40000 miles. That is the main issue with this car. Also the air filter must be replaced at anytime it is dirty do not clean it and re-use. Just replace it when it is dirty period.
Nissan has so many sensors on the car however the sensor that controls air intake is the most critical for smooth performance of the car and that is the Mass Air Flow meter. It is one of the things Listed in the owners manual DIY including starter plug.
