1982 Volkswagen Golf GLD review from Portugal
"The mini panzer tank"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Heated stopped working.
Alternator & starter overhauled at 410'000kms.
Seats a bit saggy.
Steering heavy (if you don't have any muscles)
Paint faded after 20 years (but I never really washed her anyway)
Suspension as hard as a horse drawn carriage from the 18th century.
General comments?
Dad bought her new then passed her onto me.
Went to Sardinia from Portugal in 2006 and the old girl never let me down - and that was with 407'000kms on the clock. She only used half a
litre of oil.
She generally starts first time, but can be a bit smoky. What do you expect from a 25 year old diesel whose engine has never been opened up!
Will cruise all day at 120km/h. That's 75 mph to all those who think in miles.
I love the old girl and laugh when I see modern cars broken down by the side of the road.
Built when Volkswagen were more interested in building a reputation for themselves rather than fattening up their bank account.
