1992 Fiat Uno Turbo ie review from UK and Ireland

"Too quick for its own good; but damn good fun"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Faulty radiator fan switch.

Broken passenger electric window switch.

Intermittent oil temperature reading.

General comments?

As you can see above, all problems are electrical! It's a Fiat, if you're gonna buy one, expect it.

I love it, though most of my friends hate it, as with most Fiats, you either love or hate them. Much better and more reponsive than my Nova GTE. More subtle than a 5 Turbo, less common than an RS turbo.

Handling requires at least two weeks notice before a bend; as do the brakes. Discs all round; but they don't help.

If you're particularly rough with cars, then don't buy one: you will break it! That said, they were built to be driven enthusiastically. The engine is superb, take care of it (Mobil 1 every 4k) and it will go on like a train forever.

If you're a new ('boy racer') driver, don't buy one: you will kill yourself. It is very unforgiving. It's so much fun though; the turbo is more fun than any bass box thumping stereo. Get it right and this car is so rewarding to drive. I've driven '000's of miles up and down the country every day for 3 years; I kept a clean licence until I bought this! It just begs to be 'driven' everywhere.

If you manage to find a good one, buy it. Have fun and don't kill yourself!
