1992 Lexus LS400 review from North America
"Best car I ever owned"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Fan and pulley assembly since I have owned it. Replaced struts. Got the car from relative. Was very well maintained through Lexus service Dept since it was new. Hard to isolate vibration has been getting progressively worse or I am becoming more aware of it. see below.
General comments?
Awesome ride... however it has developed a vibration which seems to be coming from trans/engine/torque converter/rear disc differential or maybe just bad tires and / or suspension bushings. Has anyone been able to isolate this "harmonic" vibration on a similar LS? Have swapped out wheels and tires, disc/rear differential, motor mounts, trans mounts. still vibrates subtly at 1800 RPM in neutral sitting still. Really annoying on the road at all speeds. Feels like every rock can be felt as I drive down a relatively smooth road. If front ball joints and control arm bushings are bad could the vibration be traveling from every little bump and rock through the tires and the frame and cause this "harmonic" vibration in the steering wheel and gear shift? This harmonic thing is really apparent at 55+ mph.
