2011 Toyota Hilux SW4 SR-V 3.0 16v turbo diesel

Think you pay a lot for your cars? Ha... Think again! You're lucky you are not Brazilian

Front passenger door arm had to be replaced at 30,000 kilometres.

Other than that just regular maintenance. It never missed a beat.

Dealer experience has been OK, just. Nothing to bowl me over and nothing to deride, just OK.

General Comments:

It's the second one we have. We had a 2006 black SW4 SR-V with the same engine and gearbox, except it was a 5-seater. We owned it for 57 months and it was also a very reliable SUV.

Err when I say we, I mean my dad. He got into his head that Toyota makes the best cars in the world, and a diesel Toyota SUV is the best combination ever... Right...

Anyway, the biggest difference on the inside from this to the 2006 SW4 is the fact that this is a 7-seater, and to be honest it was a crap idea to add the extra pair of seats, because they are only fit for small children, and they rattle like you wouldn't believe. Dealer can't do nothing to stop the rattles.

Performance is... Well, what kind of performance you'd expect for an SUV with only 163 BHP and 258 ft-lbs of torque and a 4-speed gearbox? Feels very sluggish around town and the gearbox hurts the fuel economy. The best we average is 10 kilometres per litre. On the road however, it feels OK because the turbo really lights up at higher revs.

It's a very dependable and robust SUV, but severely lacks safety features such as side and curtain airbags, and electronic stability control and traction control. To make matters worse, the rear brakes are drums and not discs.

So, overall, a very reliable, but outdated and unsafe SUV.

And to add insult to injury, guess how much it costs?

R$ 153.000.

That's about £41.000 or €50.700 or U$$ 69,000.

Just think of how many nicer SUVs you could get for this sort of money

Boy oh boy, are you lucky you're not Brazilian or what?

P.S: sorry about my crappy English.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Don't Know
