1989 Chevrolet Blazer S10 4.3

Summary:

Can't beat the longevity

Faults:

Heater core gave out after 6 months (defective.

Air controls broke in less than a year (defective).

Head liner started to sag after 10 years.

Replaced the alternator after 7 years.

General Comments:

Best car I ever owned. It's still running (and my 2000 Ford isn't doing too well).

Interior is in good shape. Seats are still comfortable, and intact, only the headliner sags. No cracks in the dashboard.

Paint is worn, but will still shines even though the car was never in a garage.

Engine knocks terribly (needs to be rebuilt, but hard to find someone who will do it on such an old car), but the transmission is original, and works like the day it was purchased.

Tires last forever, as it stays in alignment.

1989 Chevrolet Blazer s10 tahoe 4.6 Liter 260 c.i. V6

Summary:

Excellent looks and good interior

Faults:

O.K... I need some help.. I have this 1989 S10 Tahoe with the 4.6 Liter V-6. It has been sitting at my house for about a year now. I talked to the guy that I bought it from and he said that it ran excellent, but all the sudden it just doesn't work. I'm not much of a Chevrolet person, but I really need some help. I just need to know some common problems with this kind of vehicle so that I can get it running.

General Comments:

It's throttle body injected which I don't like very much, but I guess it's a strong runner when it was running. It is gorgeous. I have the blue and silver 2 tone paint and it has air ride. With the bags fully deflated it has a 6 inch drop. I just need to make the darn thing run. Please help!!

The electronic control module (ignition system) or the pickup inside the distributor may be at fault, that is assuming you're getting fuel. Then it may be fuel pump related.

I have a 1989 blazer tahoe also and my no start problem was ignition, which seems to be common. Hopefully this will help a little.

I have a 1990 s-10 Blazer and love it. About the 4x4 light staying on. The 4hi light was staying on in mine and it turned out that the front hubs were not fully disengaging after shifting to 2wd. The cause for this turned out to be a vacuum actuator located under the battery tray. Just something to check because it'll put a lot of wear and tear on your front end.

Dennis.

1989 Chevrolet Blazer Tahoe 4x4 4.3 V6

Summary:

This has been a great car for us.

Faults:

CV boot covers have torn and been replaced 3 times. Water pump, alternator been replaced. Starter replaced twice. AC fan replaced twice, fan switch once. AC compressor replaced twice, for r134 conversion to succeed you need to replace the condensor for one with bigger tubes. All parts paid for 1 time, after that it's covered under Autozone lifetime warranty!

General Comments:

I love this Blazer. My wife has put it through short trip hell. In the last year, the engine, transmission and interior have really deteriorated so I got her a '99 Blazer and I will completely rebuild this one and drive it myself for another quarter million miles. Except for the CV boot covers I have been the only one to work on this vehicle.
