1999 Chevrolet Blazer LS 4.3 V6

Summary:

A great 4WD multi-purpose vehicle!

Faults:

This seems like a long list, but I have considered the issues with my Blazer to be typical maintenance stuff:

I changed the plugs and wires around 40K ($80).

I changed out the fuel pump & filter at 45K ($400). I have heard this is common on Blazers, and I was a little frustrated because the pump was fine. It was my gauge/sensor that was broke, but the sensor is built into the pump. After almost a year of a non-working gas gauge, I finally gave in and fixed it.

I put on new tires and brake pads around 50K ($550).

I had to have the ball joints replaced at 75K ($450).

And yesterday, (77.5K) the driver side seat recline lever broke off ($?).

Last week, a rock cracked the windshield ($150).

I also need to replace the hatch lift shocks ($50).

General Comments:

I love my Blazer. I know the overwhelming majority of reviews I have read claim it to be a piece of junk, but mine has been great. I drive mine frequently and hard, but not long distances (about 11K/year). I really wanted a manual transmission and the 4WD was the best decision I ever made. This truck is extremely reliable in the winter and in bad conditions. I get around town when half the city is stranded on the side of the road.

The down sides are fairly obvious. I only get around 17 mpg in town, maybe 20-21 highway if I'm lucky. I bought the 2-dr (with the rear tire) before I had kids, which I think looks sporty, but it's a bear to get in the back seat. It's a little small inside, but it fits me well. The ride is not the smoothest, but that's not why I bought it.

Personally, I think this is a great vehicle. I don't spend a lot of time keeping it clean, but it still looks new to me. It's going on 8 years, and I hope to get at least 3-4 more and up to 120K. I will probably buy another GM product when this one bites the dust, or I'm ready to move on.

Summary:

I know I will never buy another one again

General Comments:

This was my first car that I bought myself and I am very disappointed in it.

I went to adjust the tilt on the drivers seat and the tilt lever just snapped right off.

Now my car is making a weird ticking sound and I don't know what to do or what is wrong with it.

I used to be so proud of my car it was like my baby now I am very disappointed.

I also just found out that I need to change my routers and I just bought my car a few months ago.

1999 Chevrolet Blazer

Summary:

I have been generally happy with it, but the minor problems add up after a while

Faults:

Brakes need to be replaced every few years. Luckily they make a scraping sound when they are on the last layer before they go. *If you get into an accident where you slam on your brakes have them checked immediately!!

Horn only works occasionally.

I recently rear ended a truck going at approximately 35 mph and the air bags did not deploy.

The gas gauge is not too reliable. I use the odometer to keep track of when I need to get gas.

General Comments:

MPG on this truck is disgusting. I get about 13 miles to the gallon on the highway! That is my biggest problem with the truck. I previously owned a 1994 Chevy Blazer and hoped the gas mileage would be better on a 1999.

It takes a long time to stop this truck. You have to leave a lot of room in front of you to stop.

There is a huge blind spot on the driver's side. I attached little round mirrors to the side mirrors and it helped tremendously.

The seats are really comfortable for people with low back problems. The lumbar support is great.

The air/heating system is pretty good. In the winter it warms up within 4 minutes.

So far I have not had the notorious Chevrolet rust problems with this truck.

This truck is pretty fast. Acceleration is very good, just be careful when trying to stop.
