2004 Chevrolet Colorado LS 4dr EXT cab Z71 4x4 3.5 inline 5 cylinder

Summary:

SOLID... a dream to own

Faults:

- Tailgate latch adjustment at 45k.

- Headlight unit replaced at 45k due to bad seal and water accumulation in the unit.

- New battery at 50k.

- Fog light bulb replaced at 60k.

General Comments:

Looks like a very mean truck with a good set of AT tires.

Overall, very impressed with performance and reliability. Would take it anywhere anytime. Tows my old Blazer on a flatbed no problem.

The overdrive gear of this transmission is geared sooo high. Runs 2500rpm at 75mph. Every hill or incline requires a downshift. If towing, better leave it in third.

Audio system is just absolute junk.

2004 Chevrolet Colorado LS Z71 3.5 Vortec Inline

Summary:

A great buy when a full size truck is too big to fit your needs

Faults:

Replaced O2 sensor because of failed Penn. state emissions inspection. I wouldn't of replaced it, but was required by state law.

General Comments:

This truck is great. It's a rough and ready vehicle. I do everything with it from landscaping to pulling my 20' Chris Craft on the weekends. May struggle a little on steep grades, but otherwise plenty of power.

Still the original factory brakes at 107,000.

Paint and clear coat still have plenty of gloss. I wax once a year after the winter.

I've never had it in the shop except for the Penn. State inspection required by law for plates and registration.

Oil changes every 7500-9000 miles.

2004 Chevrolet Colorado Z71 LS 5 cylinder

Summary:

All in all, not a bad truck!

Faults:

Brakes went out at 45,000 miles.

Right headlight has went out 3 times.

The right upper ball joint went out and is nearly impossible to find an aftermarket part.

The factory CD player is not very good.

General Comments:

This truck is fun to drive, gets great mileage and has loads of power compared to my S10.

All in all, I am satisfied with the truck.

I have hauled tons of stuff with it and been on several long trips.

2004 Chevrolet Colorado Z85 4 cylinder

Summary:

What more could you want for $12,000?

Faults:

The cam solenoid went bad about 1 year ago. I believe it cost around $250 to replace. No problems since.

Had to replace a rheostat on the A/C blower, would only blow on high speed, about $50, no problems since.

General Comments:

I bought this truck for fuel mileage as I frequently have to drive across the state. That is why I got the 4cyl and 5 speed tranny.

The engine has more than adequate power, and the tranny is flawless. I have checked my fuel mileage many times, and always get 27mpg. This driving is approximately 50/50 highway, city. You can't beat this mileage!

I have 98,000 miles and still have the original brakes. I think that is amazing. I've had vehicles that had to have the brakes redone at 25,000 miles.

I am 6'5" tall and weigh 245lbs, and I find the comfort level to be very good. Comfortable seats, plenty of leg room, excellent A/C, very good radio/CD player.

2004 Chevrolet Colorado Z-71 3.5 I-5

Summary:

The early Chevy Colorado's are junk!

Faults:

Bought used with low mileage, and nothing but trouble.

O2 sensor, door seals, speed sensor (s), wheel bearing replaced, poor idle, choke problem, wiper motor replacement, radio trouble and speaker problems, rear transmission seal replaced plus rattles, creaks and the like.

General Comments:

Before buying, Carfax states it never was in an accident and it had low miles! I test drove for two days and gave a list of what it needed to the dealer who fixed things. Needless to say, my 6 month used car warranty is about up and I just got it back from the last list of fixes it needed. I can see nothing but trips to my local garage to keep this domestic piece of fine engineering on the road.

I thought I was doing the right thing when I unloaded my "99" S-10 ZR-2, but I wish I had it back.

My 1989 Toyota Pickup was the best vehicle I ever owned! But Toyota out-priced itself for me to buy from them. But then again, look what domestic automakers put out! This truck is junk!

You get what you pay for. Sometimes it's better in the long run to pay a little more for something and get better quality.
