2005 Chevrolet Colorado LS 3.5L

Summary:

Runs great and goes everywhere, could use a little more power

Faults:

Axle seals broke at 110,000 miles.

U bolt broke at 117,000.

General Comments:

Great truck. Taken offroad in Moab and all over the country. Very reliable. Could use more power for climbing mountains with camping gear. Otherwise runs great and goes everywhere I want it to.

U bolt left me stranded in Montana. Taken on several 5000+ mile trips and ran great.

I have 33 inch tires on it.

2005 Chevrolet Colorado LS Z-71 4x4 Crew Cab 3.5litre

Summary:

I'm happy with it, it's not a real truck, box is too small, but good for me

Faults:

Took a trip from Edmonton to Cranbrook a couple weeks after purchase. It ran great. The morning I was to return, it wouldn't start; absolutely nothing, not even a click. Checked battery, okay, called dealer, sent a tow truck, and had me on the road in a few hours, temporary fix, as they didn't have the part, fixed properly at home.

Since then have put on 55,000 kms and not one problem, only oil changes. Very happy.

General Comments:

On long trips, the seats aren't the most comfortable, and the stereo sounds good, but not very loud. When truck is cold, the brakes squeal, and have done this since I got it. Short distance only.

2005 Chevrolet Colorado

Summary:

Keep looking

Faults:

Problem with heater not blowing much air at about 130,000 miles. Had it looked at by independent mechanic, and somehow debris had gotten into the heater blower; he cleaned it out.

Two weeks later on the way home from work, smoke started coming out the heater vents, pulled over and shut off heater, quit smoking, got back on the highway and exited 1/8 mile later. As soon as I pulled off, the vents started smoking again and fire started coming through under the passenger glove box where the blower motor is located. Truck burned to nothing by the time the fire department got there.

Beyond this giant problem, the interior dash was of poor quality and scratched easily. Airbag light came on around 100,000 miles. Check engine light continually came on from computer not registering that fuel cover was screwed in all the way even though it was.

We should have let GM fail. CD player ate a CD and would not spit it out rendering it useless.

General Comments:

This truck ran well while I had it. It was a 2wd so it also got fairly good gas mileage. I also liked having the extra space that the extended cab provided, although it was a little too small to be comfortable when anyone was seated back there. It seemed that all the little details were poorly thought out in the construction materials and design.

That seems like a very trouble free vehicle. The issue with the fire is probably related to the way that mechanic 'fixed' the blower; he could have stuffed dry leaves inside, which might have started a fire.

2005 Chevrolet Colorado 5 cylinder

Faults:

First day the engine light came on. Took it to the dealer, who said that it was fixed.

Engine light on again 4th day I had it. They told me that it needs a new head. Made an appointment to have have the work done. Took it to the dealer the 11th of March. Said that it would take 2 to 3 days. It's now the 27th of March and they still have it.

General Comments:

The truck is everything that I need, but can't tell you too much about it.

It would be nice if the dealer would let me know what is going on with it.

After raising hell with them, they give me all kinds of bull, and I told them that I could have done it.

2005 Chevrolet Colorado Extended Cab Z71 3.5 liter

Summary:

Great all around vehicle for passengers and hauling

Faults:

Replaced oxygen sensor (under warranty).

Very, very slight pull to the right. It is so minor that I never bothered to take it to the alignment shop.

General Comments:

Great car / truck.

I have the cheap version with the bench front seats. The seats on a very long trip can get uncomfortable. The front bucket seat option would have fixed this problem.

I did an 1100 mile trip yesterday and got 25.5 miles per gallon running empty at 65 mph with the outside temperatures of -5 to +20 F.

I prefer my Jimmy to my Colorado for long trips because of the convenience features. I could have purchased the same convenience features on the Colorado, but this was purchased as a cheaper second vehicle.

I occasionally tow a 11,000 GVW trailer with John Deere diesel tractor on it. It does this with ease.
