2012 Chevrolet Suburban LTZ 5.3

Summary:

Not impressed

Faults:

Transmission went out, apparently for the second time. Dealer wanted almost $6k for rebuilt unit, was able to have it rebuilt by a tranny shop for $3600. Tranny shop said the transmission had apparently been replaced before.

Lights pulsating at night, maybe the alternator?

General Comments:

It is huge and looks impressive, but had only about a 5000# towing capacity... disappointing for something so big. I should have done my homework.

The instrument panel seemed a bit "plain" and dated compared to other vehicles of the same year. When driving the Suburban, it felt more like I was driving a 1980's U-Haul truck rather than a luxury SUV. Interior road noise was louder than I would have expected and the ride was more "truck-like."

I've been driving since 1975, driven hundreds of thousands of miles and have never had to replace the tranny in any vehicle until this behemoth left me stranded 2 hours from home. Not impressed with this GM product and was glad to trade it in on an Expedition.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? No

I would have bought a new Silverado with rear seat and towing package. They are SUV like. Lots of modern technology and instrumentation. Very comfortable as a passenger. I’ve gone to auto auctions pulling an aluminum tandem car trailer with ease.

I wouldn’t buy a GM truck. The new ones have too many engine lifter problems.
