2004 Chevrolet Tahoe LX

Summary:

The car is big, safe and comfortable

Faults:

Oil leaks from multiple places.

4WD will not engage

General Comments:

When I purchased the car it had a 160000 miles on it and I was extremely worried that it was at the very end of its life. However, 80,000 miles later it's still going.

2004 Chevrolet Tahoe LT 5.3 V8 Flex-Fuel

Summary:

Love it, wouldn't trade it for anything else

Faults:

Front suspension crossmember replaced at 7k miles.

Tire Pressure Monitors replaced on all tires at both 18k and 24k miles.

Steering column replaced at 24k.

Driver seat show more wear than other cars I have owned.

General Comments:

This is really the best car I have ever owned. It hauls a trailer with ease, it is beyond comfortable, and it is great on gas and has plenty of power for its size (I tend to get around 15 MPG in the city and 19-20 on the highway, which I believe is above average.) I have had a few minor problems with the Tahoe, but no big deals, everything was covered under facotry warranty. I purchased the 125k 6 year extended warranty when I bought the car, so I don't have anything to worry about. I always have big cars and this is really the one for me, I wouldn't trade it for anything else out there.

2004 Chevrolet Tahoe LT 5.3

Summary:

Poor quality, Poor GM Service for such a high price!

Faults:

9,000 miles. Gauge cluster replaced, now going bad again. Intermediate shaft replaced, making noise again. Window pillar trim made cracking noise and was bowed, they replaced and it's bowed and noisier than ever. Exhaust pops, replaced heat shield still pops they say it's normal. Headlights flicker on and off when stablitrack kicks in. Took in 5 times they say nothing is wrong.

Brakes crack, but they say nothing is wrong. Service 4x4 light comes on, but again they say nothing is wrong.

Stabilitrack kicks in when it shouldn't and stays engaged for long periods.

Front springs are creaking. A/C is making a terrible noise from behind climate control box and under the hood.

Engine sounds like something is rattling around in the bottom. At first they cleaned oil pump pick up tube then 2nd time told me noise was normal.

I've had this in the shop 6 times and not 1 thing has been fixed. Contacted GM and they are no help. Warranty is about to run out and I only have 18,000 miles. on it.

General Comments:

I do love my Tahoe, but for the extremely high price I paid of $46000 I expected more. The quality sucks for the price. We bought 2 Toyota's new both at a cost below $22000 and never once had them in the shop! They were just to small.

You need to find another dealership. The place you are taking it to, they are lazy. They know there's a problem (why acknowledge there is a problem by replacing the pickup tube, then say it's normal??) but don't wanna fix it under warranty. Once your warranty runs out and your paying them outta pocket, all that "normal" stuff is gonna turn into costly repairs real quick!

Classic apology from the domestic fan, "It must have been the dealer!" Not the fact that domestics are poorly made, disposable junk.

2004 Chevrolet Tahoe LT V8 5.3L

Summary:

I love it, but having too many problems with mine

Faults:

Fuel gauge was inaccurate.

Engine light keeps coming on.

General Comments:

As much as I love this Tahoe I have had my share of problems with it. I bought it used in 2004 and although it had higher miles on it for a 2004 the vehicle seemed to be in great condition.

I took it to the dealership to get the 30,000 mile service and since then the emissions system and fuel tank have been nothing, but trouble. They have had to replace the fuel tank sensor, the fuel pump and still the light keeps coming on. They have said they are not quite sure why it keeps coming on. I have to admit the dealership has been going above and beyond the call of duty each time something goes wrong, but they know my voice when I call so that can't be good.

I can't say anything bad about the interior or exterior. I love how it looks, I like the cargo space and everything right down to the cup holders. I have the DVD system which the kids love and the sound system is great too! Handling is great as long as you don't have those big 20" rims with fat tires that wander all over the road.

All in all I love this SUV if only I could keep the engine light from coming on. I'm sure if these problems don't get resolved soon before the factory warranty runs out I may be getting rid of it.

Had similar headache with my Pontiac Aztek regarding persistent emission/evap codes. After a few hundred dollars of attempted cures at a garage, I found a 10 amp evap sensor fuse was blown in the console.
