2008 Chevrolet Tahoe Z71 5.3

Summary:

Great capable vehicle

Faults:

Transmission had to be replaced at 140,000 miles.

Rear end bearings replaced at 184,000 miles.

Universal joints replaced at 184,000 miles.

Front hubs replaced at 125,000 miles.

General Comments:

This is the most comfortable car I've ever been in. Rides like a dream and is capable in all types of conditions.

The 4WD is very effective.

Several power train repairs, but all well over 100,000 miles, and the engine is still strong at 187,000 miles.

All work done at the dealer. Approximately $5,500 for all the power train repairs over the last 6 years.

Sticker price in 2008 was about $52,000. Going to try to run it for another 2-5 years. I drive 30,000 hard, fast miles a year.

2008 Chevrolet Tahoe LT

Summary:

A lot of money for too many problems!!

Faults:

Rough shifting and hesitation into second at 3,000 miles, feels like someone kicked you from behind and dealer could not fix the problem.

20,000 miles, stabilitrak constantly turns itself off, dealer tried 2 times to fix, not fixed.

20,000 miles, traction control turns itself off, dealer tried 2 times to fix, not fixed.

25,000 miles, windshield wipers (not the blades) literally fell apart. Had to pay $50 to fix.

26,000 miles, presets for seat controls no longer work.

26,000 miles, remote car starter stopped working.

26,000 rust appeared on front quarter panel.

General Comments:

This car is very comfortable and rides smoothly once it gets going.

Hesitates and then shifts very hard into second gear. Had vehicle out to dealer several times and they could not fix the problem. It got better over time but still does it.

Handled great in the snow the first winter I drove it. Now it slides all over the place! Seems like it started doing this when the "traction control off" light kept coming on. Dealer can't fix.

Rust (a lot of it!) appeared on the front driver's side quarter panel. Dealer refuses to fix stating that I must have hit a rock at some point and caused this. Nobody can see any evidence of this except them. Seems to me like it was a bad paint job to begin with (I can see bondo near the rust spots. I have never used bondo on anything in my life!)

Why did yo have to pay $50 to fix the wipers when the warranty on your truck goes to at least 36K miles? Try a different dealer if you can't get things fixed there. You don't have to take it back where you bought it, especially if they are incompetent at fixing their own vehicles. The traction control sounds like maybe a computer thing and maybe an expensive fix they don't want to deal with.

Also, if you have found signs of bondo on a fairly brand new car, I would be looking for a Carfax on it. Obviously the car was damaged prior to you receiving it and patched up poorly causing it to rust out. It says you bought it with 3,000 miles on it, so it had plenty of time to be damaged and they obviously didn't disclose this to you.

I have heard stories of this happening to people with brand new cars. It gets damaged on the way to the dealer, they fix it with cheaper parts and sell it as new, then you go to trade it in and they tell you your car was in an accident and your value plummets by thousands. You might want to look into that possibility as it could cost you big down the road.

Overall, I would guess you bought at a really lousy dealer that can't fix your vehicle and charges you for items that should be under warranty.

Summary:

Awesome. The perfect vehicle for me. Love it

Faults:

Alignment was off at original purchase.

General Comments:

I LOVE this vehicle. It is so comfortable on the road. We make several 500 mile (one way) trips per year and have never arrived so relaxed and comfortable.

Mileage in mixed driving (~16 mpg) and highway (up to 20 mpg) is acceptable for a vehicle of this size.

I should have bought this vehicle many years ago. Love it, love it, love it.
