1994 Daewoo Racer GTi 1.5

Poor quality and bad dealer service were the reasons why Daewoo went bankrupt in this country

Daewoos here are known for their bad quality and lack of spare parts. This car always breaks down, and worse, whenever this car breaks down, it's very hard to look for parts.

General Comments:

The car, which was owned by my cousin before she migrated to the UK, did not have many problems, unlike our Espero, which had problems all the time, but because of poor dealer support, the car was a headache to own.

We borrowed this one time because my dad was curious how this good is this car, but it didn't meet his expectations.

I think the farthest point this car reached was only Enchanted Kingdom, which is just a few kilometers outside Metro Manila.

I think it's all about how you drive the car and how you maintain it... The performance of the vehicle depends also on the person who drives it!!!

I agree. As long as you know how to take care of your car, it will give you less problems.

I am aware that Daewoo does not have a service center here in the Philippines. It is almost impossible to look for parts, but if you know where to look, you will find it.

I bought a Daewoo Racer GTi 1994 last year. It was well maintained by the previous owners. I even got a mechanic who used to work at Daewoo motors, looking after my car. My car is now 18 years old and it still in tiptop condition. It would be great to have easy access to parts though.

I bought a Daewoo Racer ETi 1994 model last February, 2012. To really know how it runs and works, I test drove it from Manila to the province of Leyte in the Visayas. To my surprise, the car went down from smooth to rough roads without breaking down. I just rested twice during the trip; once in Ligao Albay, and another time in Calbayog city, Samar. I reached Tacloban City after a 40 hour drive.

I like this car.

May I ask the address of your mechanic? I've got also a Daewoo Racer ETi 94 model, and I want to have it checked by an expert Daewoo mechanic.

A lemon car

The car is so slow and unreliable.

The trunk had to be opened with a key maybe because it doesn't have a trunk opener or maybe the trunk opener is broken.

Air-con doesn't work well often.

Brakes doesn't work well which my mommy scared but fortunately we were able to reach our destination fine.

Overheating problem in heavy traffic.

One time the window didn't close and worse it rained!

General Comments:

This car is not ours but we just borrowed this from my aunt several times before.

In my opinion the exterior looks good but when you see for yourself and start it up this car lacks performance and quality.

At least now it was sold and she had a Toyota Revo and now a Toyota Innova which are a lot more reliable.

1999 Daewoo Racer ETi 1.5

Value for money and it's fast

Nothing major just the high tension wire & fuel pumped replaced, also the brake pads and the air cleaner, & belts for the usual wear & tear. By the way, the glass window on the driver's side was not working smoothly and I had to change the mechanism to a new one. That's it.

General Comments:

I drive this car for around 9 years now and it has not given me any headache. This car accelerates well. It's a practical car to have, and it's fuel efficient as well for a 1.5 engine.

When I vacationed abroad for 3 months, I just had my sister start the car regularly and when I came back I just had my car tuned up. The engine went back to its usual smooth sound and it run normally.
