1996 Peugeot 205 Inca 1.8. diesel

Summary:

Brillant, reliable car. I loved it

Faults:

Very little - I had it for 8 years; in all that time, all that went wrong with it was it needed a new starter motor after 63,000 miles, and the fan belt snapped after 67,000 miles. VERY reliable car.

Clutch started to slip at 67,000 miles.

General Comments:

I loved this car. It drove like a little a tractor, but it was amazingly cheap to run and very very reliable. I miss it a lot.

1996 Peugeot 205 Inca 1.8 diesel

Summary:

Amazing cheap to run car!!!

Faults:

The car leaks from the aerial on the roof, drips through the interior light.

Suspension squeaky at the back and front.

Clonking on steering (bushes)

General Comments:

I normally own big cars, and as I'm moving further away, a diesel car was needed. Didn't want a big family diesel car, no point, just me on the way to work, so opted for the 205.

The car is very spacious inside considering such a small car. Dash very basic, but all working well, and looks like it'd last a long time.

With the rear seats folded down, there's truck loads of room inside for anything.

Standard stereo is a little lame in quality.

There is a sense of 'flimsy' about the car, but only cause the doors aren't as thick as I'm used to etc.

The 1.8 diesel lump has 59bhp, and I have to admit, I was surprised when I pulled away in it - I accidentally wheel spun!! Wasn't expecting that. It is a very quick little car considering it's diesel. The steering is very direct, not heavy and gives you a feeling of 'nippy' when driving. The brakes aren't amazing, but adequate.

The car returns approx 62mpg and that's mixed motorway and town driving. You can't beat that.

So, in conclusion, as a commuting car, it's cheap, fun to drive, picks up speed well, does 62mpg, comfortable... what else could you want?

1996 Peugeot 205 Inca diesel

Summary:

Very good second car for a student

Faults:

Starter motor went after having to drive through a salty puddle to leave a car park.

The front passenger side leaks, although I'm not too sure where from.

General Comments:

Excellent little car, very economical, averaging 50-55 miles to the gallon and is fast enough, whilst not being too fast.

With the rear seat down I can fit 2 mountain bikes and two large rucksacks in the car, giving very good storage space for a car of its size.

With a sunroof the car is very well lit and appears spacious inside.
