Replaced transmission at 94,000-free of charge from dealer- Transmission has a 100,000 mile warranty. Replaced ball joints in the front suspension at 132,000 miles. Had front end alignment done at the same time. Replaced ABS sensor on front right wheel at 120,000. Got timing belt and water pump done at 130,000 miles. Also had tensioner done at same time. The timing is a fiber glass reinforced unit so it can well over 100,000 and will not break. Left headlight went out at 140,000. Bulb was fine, but something called an inverter was bad and had to be replaced.
The car is relatively reliable and very comfortable and very smooth. Handling is not that great; what with about 61% of cars weight on front wheels.
Had to have the transmission rebuilt at 179,000 and the car now had 181,000 miles. The engine runs as smoothly as ever.. although I had to replace the throttle sensor and 1 ignition coil.
Just had to have the transmission replaced at 70,000 miles. tranny shop said the clutches in the tran and the torque converter were delaminating. he said that acura knows they have a problem. would appreciate feed back from other cl, pilot owners with same tranny.
Acura has extended the warranty on the transmissions on at least the 2001 cl (my car) but they are not notifying the owners of this fact so if you get your traany replaced without going to the dealer you'll never know unless you complain to acura as I did.
Here is a website link to the second generation Acura CL club that deals with the tranny issues.
