1996 Acura Integra GS-R review from North America
"This is a good car"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Fender liner was ripped off of the passenger side front fender the first day I had it. (Possibly due to human error, the car had a cold air intake at the time and the liner may not have been secured in the front to allow access to the filter.)
Clutch master cylinder went out at about 112,000 miles.
Sunroof leaks water into the spare tire well although only in small amounts. I never find water there but I did find rust on my tools.
Rear window washer has never worked.
General comments?
Car is reliable, and has never let me down and requires little maintenance.
Interior rattles a lot but that's probably from the car being lowered for 6 years.
Insurance can be expensive for younger drivers.
Since I bought the car I've been getting around 25-26 MPG, but this last month I've been getting 27-30 and have not changed my driving habits.
The paint is in not such great condition and although if I took more care to wash and wax the car it would look better, its still not very forgiving if you neglect it.
Car dents extremely easily, so park far away from everything.
The interior is well laid out.
One thing I have a gripe with is that Acura seems to have discontinued quite a few parts for the car, which is annoying because its hard to replace certain things. Unless I choose to replace certain items in the car soon like door panels and the center console (due to damage from previous owner) Im afraid that they won't be available. Considering how many of these cars I see everyday, it seems like a poor decision on Acura's part to discontinue some of these items.
Unless you take it to the dealership, which admittedly does a good job albeit expensively, find a good mechanic or learn to work on the car yourself. There are many independent shops that claim to be able to work on "imports" and do poor work. For example, when I bought the car it needed a new clutch and the previous owner took care of the problem but took it to a bad shop and they replaced the gear oil in the transmission with what I would guess to be 75w gear oil even though Honda recommends their own MTF or 10w-30 motor oil. The transmission started grinding about a month after I bought it and I had to take it to the dealership to fix the problem, which cost me $50.00.
Car has a lot of aftermarket parts support.
