For the guy crazy about mustangs, I have a yellow 2000 type-r and I am very comfortable with reving 9000rpm, I had a 92 GSR with 270000 km or 168 000 miles and the only thing on the motor I had to change was a motor mount and the valve cover gasket. lets see what ya got to change on your mustang before it reaches 100 000 miles. (transmission, motor, maybe or both)
And I can stay in front of a 2000 gt till we reach 120 miles an hour. Did it, done it, do it again. They are just totally different. But a integra is better than a stang any day of the week!!!
Have you ever heard of balance. I own a type R. it goes, turns and stops very well. a mustang goes that's it. and for all you vtec haters have you ever been in a dohc vtec honda. just wondering. and all you type R haters have you ever been in a type R before. just wondering.
First of all, I'm a Chevy maniac, but I would buy an Acura over a ford any day! The only problem in all of these comments is that all of you guys are wrong. I want to ask the guy with the supra how much he payed for it. I have a Gmc Typhoon that has a turbo upgrade and I am running a 12.5 1/4 mile so bring all of these cars on.
I personally am for the stang. but here are some points (facts) about bothe cars.
Mustang Type R
>big displacement high torque >low dis. high hp.
>pushrod simplicity less things >Vtec lower emisions
to go wrong more hp. per cq. i (liter)
>easy to get lots of power >many after market parts
from the computer (tuner module) but big bucks to get
>lots of cheap parts those parts
>quality is nearing if not
comprable to that of AMERICAN
built japanese cars.
Listen, when it comes to these two cars they are both great cars. don't compare them they both have there strength and weaknesses and for you people who say quality of All japanese cars is higher when was the last time you checked out a J.D power and associates report. quality in initial reviews were comparable and in some cases better than "japanese" cars. Second most of these "japanese" cars have most of there parts made in the u.s.a and are assembled in the u.s.a. but now companies like ford, gm and dogde are moving there operations south making more and more parts in mexico while still assembiling them in the u.s.a. and lastly and trust me of this, in our family we have two cars one is a 1988 chevrolet beretta and the other a 2000 honda accord. each car has had it's fair share of problems, but no car is perfect.
These cars should not be compared they are to totaly diffren car plus it is kind of un comfortable to have parts inside the engine block brake. once while in a honda s-2000 a connecting rod snapped the part still attached to the crankshaft killed the block the piston and other part of the connecting rod bent the crank went throught the oil pan and spilled a lot of very hot oil on the road behind the car atleast a crushed pushrod is a lot less dramatic. they both preform well and I mean not put either of these good cars down, but save yourselves the trouble and stop comparing them be happy for the other guy if he wins the race, but next time try harder and give it even more. And especially don't resort to low put downs something I hope you should have left back in elementary school. trust me I love both the Stang and R.
I love the reactions that people have when comparing import to domestic. The truth is that both are totally different ballparks. One is front wheel drive, the others are rear. One is 4 cylinder, the others are 8. One is reliable the others are not so, unless you add aftermarket parts that are reliable. I personally prefer integra type r's over mustangs and camaros. They get bomb gas mileage, they last to 200,000+ miles if taken care of. They handle like the shiznit, and they are really fun cars to drive. Big downfall, they have absolutely no power in low rpm, and this is coming from an integra lover. Its true though, you have to really rev em up to unlock what is special about them. Not so with a mustang or camaro. The peak power of an integra type r kicks in around 5,500 rpm and peaks out at 8,000 rpm, thanks to VTEC controlling over the intake and exhaust valves. But up to 5,500 rpm they feel like stock civics. And unlike many people believe, adding a air intake and exhaust will not change the charecteristics of the power delivery.
I have a 97 Integra type R. Integra Type R are the best that takes any import or domestic Bone stock. This is a car that is rare and is a dream car for most import lover. It a car of fame so stop talking about those cheap 5.0 I don't want to hear it. It just like any other mustang. But not like the type R it is rare and There is only a certain amount that was made. Plus the price don't drop as fast as the fords and any other domestic cars. In about two years you can get the Ford Mustang gt or what ever 2005 for less than 15grand depend on where you buy it. But not the type r its stay the same or maybe just drop about 1000 or two. For the supra guy supra are cool, but check this out supra are a higher class than type R getting a supra I rather get a Acura NSX cheaper and better. It has 290 hp and 6 speed too. Plus better gas than the supra. Thanks goto go.
And by the way, the type-r is the the 14.5 1/4 mile range.. bye bye stock 5.0... the type-r in an incredible machine.. ready for racing right off the lot.. find me another 1.8l car that pushes 195hp..
I love how people always presume GT mustangs handle like junk, take a peak at a few skidpad and slalom tests done by Road and Track showing the handling of the 2 cars here.
http://members.tripod.com/~juan_espero/handling.html
The 96 Stang out handles and outdrives the Integra, its easy to spout out at the mouth or show a vid of a great driver racing a stock idiot, but hard numbers preformed by a respectable source are hard to deny.
Ummm... a 96 mustang MIGHT out handle a 96 integra gsr since the type r was released in 1997 for the U.S...
I think its all a matter of preference. Slalom tests are done usually by one drive so that the variable is constant. So there isn't a better driver going faster. But in reality there would be a better driver. Maybe the driver preferred driving RWD over FWD. Anyways I have a 1991 integra with Eibach springs, Ky-b adjustable shocks, + a B61a engine and I've smoked more than a few mustangs off the line and on back roads. If I can beat them with my teg then a 2000 Type R with the right driver would smoke any mustang!
Your B61 engine? Sweet! The Civics are now coming with 6.1 liter engines, where can I get one?
On the other hand, if you're talking about the B16, that's a different story. Honda is probably my favorite car company, but I still haven't seen too many B16's with their approx. 100 lb ft of torque (or 111..whatever) that "smoked more than a few mustangs off the line and on back roads." Who cares if it has Vtec? It's STILL 200 lb ft less than the mustang! Unless of course..you're racing the V6's. My turbo Integra ran 0-60 faster than a TypeR, (upper 5's) and it would still get beat by one of the new GT's or Cobras.
Some of these comments are just absurd. They sound like they are from people who the closest thing they've done to working on a car is read an article from a magazine.
Ya dude my Geo Metro with rims will smoke your McLaren...
My bad on the typo, I was talking about the b16a. Anyways I checked out the 0-60 times to a few mustangs heres what I got.
1999 Ford Mustang GT - 5.5
2005 Ford Mustang LX 4.0l 6.9 (C&D Feb 05)
2004 Ford Mustang Cobra SVT 4.5 12.9
1997 Acura Integra Type R 6.5 14.7.
Now these numbers aren't to impressive on either side, but you have to take many things into consideration. Like the fact that many people are driving the slower mustangs, and a lot of old grumps have automatic transmissions, and there's a lot of angry old grups where I live. And, I have a car that has over 100 pounds of wieght reduction, a stage 1 clutch, light flywheel, cold air intake, ecu that revs to 8400 rpms, and many other mods. So unless it's a cobra I usually smoke em'. I admit that I don't win of the line, but I catch up when vtec hits, I can't even hear stangs over my teg!!
I have a 96-Spec (JDM) Honda Integra Type-R. When the Type-R came out, only 3 cars handled better, and they were over $100,000 So the Type-R will always be a legend in my books.
Love the way the throttle responds and and that intgegras vtec are true tuners.
Simply add good intake, headers, exhaust, MSD ignition, vtec controller, dyno tune it and see the real power of a Type R. Type R's can smoke most cars and keep up with modified Evos. So it's really good for a non turbo car.
