"Destined to be a classic"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Power antenna motor burned out.

Climate control/defroster/AC system has needed servicing.

Replaced one CV joint.

Replaced a broken coil spring.

Replaced tie rod ends.

Replaced a rear control arm.

New oil pan.

New battery.

New alternator.

Replaced driver's door handle that broke due to ice.

Had driver's seat recovered (with leather) because of holes worn through the leather.

Sometimes pops out of second gear, my mechanic has suggested replacing with a used tranny but the problem seems to have stabilized and does not affect any gear other than second.

Replaced frozen rear brake caliper.

Had front brake rotor resurfaced (was slightly warped).

Replaced leaking fuel filter.

The engine tended to burn a little oil (about a quart every 3,000 miles), normal for the mileage, but I have had great success in reducing that by adding a product called "Restore" at each oil change which I have done at 3,000 miles.

General comments?

That list of repairs may seem extensive but that is everything I have done in two years. I love this car and some of that work, like the seat, was "elective" because this car looks and drives great and I want to keep it that way.

People who see and ride in my car cannot believe that it is eleven years old. When waxed and detailed it looks new and is a much better looking car than many newer models in the Acura line. I plan to keep this car even after I stop driving it as my every day vehicle. This car is quick, handles crisply, is rock steady on the highway at 85+ MPH and is a pleasure to own and drive.

Proper upkeep of a car like this can cost you some money but remember that eleven years ago this was a high-end luxury performance model and if you get a good one now and take care of it it still drives like one.

I have had the same types of problems, but I love my Legend. I wonder if the noise that I get from the front driver's side is like you had, it is only when I hit bumps, it seem like the coil spring is bad, I also have a bad rear brake caliper.

I had all of these problems with my 89 Legend. Replaced the transmission as well. I love the acceleration it gives off-the-line using the sports transmission (automatic). This is my first car and I plan to turn it into my project by adding a body kit and maybe tuning the horses up a little.

Hey, I was just wondering round about what it cost you to have your seat redone. I have an 88 legend with a leather interior where the seats have been much less than cared for. Thanks.

I have a 89 legend I am having problems with my brakes. When I drive it for about 20 to 30 min the brakes start locking up. I have changed the master cylinder, brake lines, proportioning valve, and calipers. After changing all that I am still having the same problem. If any one can help me I would really appreciate it. thanks.
