I purchased the car in November of 2003 from my cousin who was basically tired of the car and it's maintenance. At the time the car would constantly cut off and would only start after the engine was cool. I met the master mechanic at my local Acura dealer and he fixed the sensor problem for about $300.
All breaks were replaced at 170,000 miles.
The muffler had a crack in it and was replaced along with most of the exhaust at 185,000 miles.
The alternator was replaced twice.
The engine also had a horrible knock, which I tried to hide by using thick oil.
The engine died on me at a little over 197,000 miles due to a valve problem.
Right before the engine went bad, the car also need shocks, struts, and ball joints.
I would still be driving the car today if it were not for the high price of a rebuilt engine.
The car amazed people on a daily basis because they could not believe how old it really was.
This was my dream car, and it really hurt when I stopped driving it.
I have tried other cars and nothing compares.
I don't understand why Acura would stop making such a wonderful car.
The Acura Legend LE L coupe the best Car I have ever owned bought it second hand from my brother. It had two problems when I bought it, first fuel computer was down and second the ABS System was shot. I never found a logical reason to replace either one to tell the truth. If you really know how to drive you do not want ABS in the first place in my opinion. Second the cost to replace and rebuild the system was almost $2000.00
I have experienced two problems with the vehicle since I bought it first the transmission went out simple to repair $1500.00 rebuild. Second problem, I started to get a valve noise at about a 150000 miles at first I thought it was an oil problem or a hydraulic valve problem. It has turned out not to be either of these situations. Instead it was cured by taking a plastic cleaning brush and running it through the oil passages to the Hydraulic lifters. No visible clogging or oil build up in the area, cannot explain why, but it has fixed the problem (valve noise). I had talked to Acura and they said they had experience similar problem and had fixed the situation by changing out the Hydraulic lifters. They clean passage ways when they do this as well. They could not explain why it was occurring therefore, I did some investigating of my own. Remove valve covers inspected valve seats and oil passage ways, nothing wrong everything in clearance. Cleaned passage ways resealed rocker arm covers problem eliminated. Other than this problem my car still sounds and acts like new. O‘yea it still goes fast and looks like new. I have not quite topped it once and was doing over 150 and that new mustang was back behind me in the dark somewhere.
Love this Car.
